B.C Wine of the Week

Lunessence Winery

Duet 2016

This year’s Wine releases will be very exciting as the Summer was one of the Hottest on Record In B.C

I am looking forward to adding Vancouver Island to my list of reviews as I will be taking a trip there  in a few weeks.

So Duet was very much not what I expected.  A blend of Syrah and Cabernet Franc cold fermented in 80 % Stainless Steel and 20 % American Oak. The Wine was medium weight with notes  Red Berries, Twig and Earth. The Palate has a creamy texture with light Tannins and a zip of pepper,

The finish is a not lengthy , however a very unique and pleasing wine  . I would recommend trying this with your Steak or Osso Buco

A mere $20

Value and taste 3.5/5

B.C Wine of the week!

Happy New Year to all my Followers!

Hope you have been treated well this season and wined fabulously !

This week  I invited fellow Wine Friend and lover of Pinot Noir to be our guest  Blogger . Brian is no stranger to the Wine business and is an avid world traveler , hockey player and has a very sophisticated  Wine palate !

So enjoy..

Cheers Gigi

2014 Eau Vivre Pinot Noir
This winery is unfortunately no longer in business, however there are still a few bottles of this wine around here and there and it is well worth your time to hunt them down as this is one of the finest Okanagan Pinot Noirs that I have tasted.
I include the winery notes here as they very accurately echo my own. “The 2014 Pinot Noir is medium garnet in colour featuring intense aromas of cherry, cranberry and spice. Bright fruit flavours of fresh red berries, orange zest and clove are complimented with the wines lively acidity.
This winery has won numerous awards including the Lieutenant Governor’s Award twice for their Pinot Noir as well as Double Gold in the International Pinot Challenge. Get it while you can!

Tinhorn Creek

Old Field Series Chardonnay

It is dry with a long finish !

Nothing better than a glass of Chardonnay after a long day shopping with my St. Andre Cheese and Nutty cracker

B.C Wine Pick of the Week

In the season of Family gatherings, it is great to arrive in my Wine fridge and take a look at what I have been keeping.  It is funny how many bottles of wine I had forgotten about. Well, at a recent Sunday Dinner my partner decided to wait no more and uncorked/decanted a 2010 Compendium.

What a treat that was!

This Bordeaux styled Blend is 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 28 Cabernet Franc with 13 months in French Oak.

We begin with a lush bouquet of Black Currants and Mint. It is a big thick wine with Smooth and ripe tannins with Superb structure!  The palate Fills your mouth with Chocolate, Black Cherry and pungent Spice. The finish was extra long and paired well with our Lamb

Well worth it!

B.C wine Pick of the week !

Riesling 2016

If you are not familiar with this winery you are no doubt familiar with the  proprietors’, The Wyse family from Burrowing Owl.  Under the label Calliope they have presented wines for easy consumption  that retain the Quality of these winemakers and expressiveness of Okanagan Terroir!

This Dry Riesling opens with a hint of Petrol, Rose Petals and Wet Stone on the nose. On the palate, Citrus and Lemongrass is accompanied with a lively acidity and Medium finish.

I suggest pairing with Green Thai curry Chicken and Eggplant!

$16.99 available at your Local Wine shop / Okanagan estate winery in Kits

Thanks to Mike for the Tasting !

B.C Wine Pick of the week !

Jackson Triggs

Grand Reserve Red Meritage  2015

This is my second review of this wine and it should be on your wine radar!

Ripe plum aromas and blackberry gives this medium garnet a sample of the terroir it came from…. think South Okanagan. This is a blend of Merlot, Cab Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot

On the palate it is full on Velvety body,  dry with some Grit and medium tannin, Cedar, Wild sage and even a hint of mint ! A hint of Spice on the finish makes the wine linger .

Add some Roasted meats and  your palate will thank me for this amazing Blend.

$22.60 at Okanagan estate wines hop on 4th Vancouver

Border Vines    2015

You would think that after having really nailed this blend in the first place they couldn’t make it any better ? Well.. they did!

Typically this Meritage has been Merlot driven with a long silky feel in the mouth . Year after year it has been a reliable wine.  But this vintage has dispensed with the Merlot and Petit Verdot .   It has a wonderful ripe nose of Black Currants, with a deep Ruby color.  A hint of Spice , Mint and green beans gives it a Silky mouthfeel.  With the beefy structure of the Cabernet ,the juiciness of the Malbec and the Earthy quality of the Carmenere it gets my vote  again !

What are you waiting for ?

BC Wine of the Week !

Wild Goose

Stoney Slope Riesling 2016

I particularly Love Riesling at this time of year! It just seems like the perfect Wine for Fall.  All that Apricot, Honey and Sweetness that is so comforting .

Riesling to me is the Queen Dowager of Grapes . She is wise, old and tolerant.

This Riesling is for you Dry Riesling Lovers!Nose of Lavender, Hint of Petrol, . It has a fresh acidity, with Citrus and Stonefruit  and that yummy honey finish on the palate . I matched this with my turkey dinner with fig and walnut stuffing and VOILA!

A Winner..

$22.99 Available at Okanagan estate wine shop on 4th and VQA stores

B.C wine pick of the week !

Black Sage Vineyard

Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

This Fall presents us with this new release from Black Sage Vineyard . These last few summers have been hot ones in the Okanagan  and the alchemy of the eart, wind and heat has brought this hardy grape to a perfect ripening!

This vintage is deep ruby/ purple color with bigger body than last vintages.

The nose has scent of Ripe blackberries and Dark Cherry. On the palate , it is Dry  with Green beans , Twig, Anise and Cocoa and showing a great Structure.

Watch out little red meats for this Big bad Red !
