Quail’s Gate Old Vines Foch 2013
To mark my half century, my partner and I spent a weekday at his family’s cabin near Lake Chilliwack. It was a lovely February winter day among the snow-capped peaks.
As is tradition with my family I brought a Marechal Foch to taste with our Blue Cheese and olives and Crackers in front of the night fire..
What a delight ! Marechal Foch is a Hybrid Grape named after a WWI hero. Quail’s gate produces this wine at their Osoyoos Vineyard from 37 years old vines . The wine is aged in American Oak for 20 months producing a dry intense flavor !
It is as intense and full bodied as its history!
Let’s Begin.. Great nose of Toasted Rye, Black Cherry with an intense palate of Cranberry, Chocolate and spice with a mouth-watering finish.
This wine has great Aging potential . If you haven’t visited Quail’s Gate in West Kelowna yet ,I strongly advise a lunch reservation at their restaurant. Amazing views and Great Food !
4/5 rating for Value and Flavor ! $25 tax in
Today my Good Friend David Aidla whom I have had the privilege of Working with in Kensington VQA store are reminiscing ! I have been myself a customer at Kensington for over 7 years having worked there almost 3. This Store really who has helped to put BC wines on the map and onto your table is closing after 13 years ! So out with a bang right ! We decided to taste David’s Favourite wine in BC and I to write about it…
2013 Vintage of the Jackson Triggs Red Meritage Grand Reserve !
The 2006 vintage was David’s fave Wine ever in BC with rich flavors of Chocolate and Mocha !
Jackson Triggs have been around for about 2 decades and the Grand Reserve is one of their Top tier series .
The 2013 begins with a Fruity blackberry and Cherry nose . There is also a lovely scent of Violet and Cedar in between .
As It takes over the palate , lovely Blackberry and Coffee notes leaves you wanting more of this elegant Bordeaux blend.
It is drinking Beautifully now, but can be aged another 3 years
Highly recommended 5/5 $22
Thanks David !

I was lucky to have had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe where I was exposed to many of the region’s famous wines’ . My move to BC introduced me to the wines in the Okanagan and I have recently been working at a BC VQA Store in Burnaby I am working on my WSET 2 I hope to one day become a wine critic and educator…
